Photo Gallery - 2012 T-Shirt Quilts

Type of quilt Description Photo of entire quilt Close up of the quilting
University of Toledo women's basketball team quilts These quilts were made to give to the 2 graduating seniors.
High school memory quilt This is a 3x4 quilt - Made up of 12 - 16" squares.  The v-neck block on the left, was an interesting solution to be able to use that shirt in a quilt.  The collar had writing and paint that we didn't want to cut off.  So we applied the collar over orange, so that the character of the shirt remained in the quilt.
Childhood memory quilt This is a 4x5 quilt - made up of 20 - 16" squares.   Notice the Barney block - what a great way to save those little tiny t-shirts from when you or your child was much younger.
jr high, high school, college quilt This is a 3x4 quilt - made up of 12 - 16" squares.  Notice the block to the right.  This was combined block.  If you have too many shirts, or the shirts don't have enough logo on them, you can combine more than 1 shirt into a block.  In this case, 3 shirts were combined into 1 block.
college memory quilt This is a 4x5 quilt - made up of 20 - 16" squares.  The layout on this was very different than ones we have had done before this.  Primarily because the "Rockets" was so large (it ran from from elbow to elbow across the back of a shirt).  So to integrate that special shirt, we created a unique center to the quilt.
son's memory quilt This was the largest quilt that we've made yet.  It was a 5x6 quilt (about queen size). Here's an example of a specialty fabric - the netting type athletic shirt.  We adhered white fabric to the back of the netting and so it was able to be included in the quilt.

concert quilt This is a great example of a specialty quilt.  It's made up of all shirts from concerts that she went to.  This is also a great example of how you don't have to use a fabric that "matches" the colors in the shirts.  She chose her favorite color - and it works with all the other colors in the quilt.
Southview t-shirt quilt This quilt was made for an auction to benefit the Southview Band when they go to Disney this spring break. This quilting was an all-over quilting pattern in an orange variegated thread. It's a pattern called "spiky feathers"

memory quilt This quilt was made from shirts throughout childhood through college This quilting pattern is called "winding feathers"
